Krish Makhija is a cinematographer based in Mumbai, India. Originally trained in Economics, he began photographing the world around him at the age of eighteen, driven by a curiosity for people, place and the quiet moments hidden within everyday life. What started as an interest in still photography gradually evolved into filmmaking, first through work as an Assistant Director on commercials, branded content and feature films, before leading him behind the camera.
He went on to earn a Master's degree in Cinematography as part of the inaugural cohort of the Kino Eyes European Film Masters programme, studying across Lisbon, Tallinn and Edinburgh.
Since graduating, Krish has photographed a diverse body of work spanning feature films, episodic series, documentaries, music videos and commercials. His narrative credits include the series Afsos and Eternally Confused and Eager for Love, as well as the feature films Friday Night Plan and The House Guest.
Alongside his narrative work, Krish continues to collaborate closely with documentary filmmakers. He was one of three cinematographers on the Academy Award-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers and later photographed the feature documentary Turtle Walker, which premiered internationally in 2024.
His work also extends to internationally acclaimed short films, including the Mongolian production Mountain Cat, which screened at major festivals including Cannes, Sundance, TIFF and Busan.
Across both fiction and documentary, Krish's cinematography is rooted in observation, seeking naturalistic images that balance emotional intimacy with a strong sense of place. Alongside his work as a cinematographer, he is also the co-founder of Monsoon Colour Lab, a motion picture film laboratory dedicated to supporting filmmakers through high-quality film processing and scanning.
